It looks like GTA 6 pre-orders won’t be going live on Monday, May 18th as Best Buy originally claimed in an email to affiliates last week. The rumour that captivated fans on social media has now led to some becoming extremely angry towards others.
This recent rumour which bumped Take-Two’s market cap by $2 billion has now been seemingly debunked. The new information comes from someone who is in a position of great knowledge at a European distribution company. This person has been a fairly reliable source for video game physical copy leaks in the past.
According to GTA Forums user Graczdari_91, who is familiar with video game distribution plans, there will be no pre-orders take you place on Monday May 18th. This is because he’s seen internal company emails that suggest US retailer Best Buy made a mistake in their email last week and pre-orders will not be taking place today.
The leaker claims “damage control” has begun this morning. He guesses this is due to the sheer amount of enquiries from stores about GTA 6 pre-orders. The leaker advises fans to keep their expectations in check even though things may change.
Our Perspective

Last week when the Best Buy “leak” occured, we warned of this exact thing happening. There was a strong likelihood that this was a placeholder of sorts and a mistake by The Best Buy affiliate team or the company that runs their affiliate platform. These things happen and aren’t uncommon. That said, Best Buy should have absolutely come out and debunked this themselves by the time the rumour gained maximum viral velocity.
Hope is not all lost though for some news coming in just a matter of days. Take-Two Interactive’s earnings report to investors will be released on Thursday. This always seemed more likely time to open pre-orders. Although this is just speculation based on what happened last year. Take-Two said marketing will begin in summer. It is not summer yet.
