GTA 6 won’t run at 60FPS on the upcoming PS5 Pro and that’s according to an expert in this field Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry. How well GTA VI will run has been a hot topic as of late due to leaks relating to a PS5 Pro and other current gen games missing a 60FPS option in their settings.
Leaks have flooded online
Over the past few days, several outlets have released leaked detailed specs for Sony’s upcoming console. Insider Gaming have the most comphrenesive leaked specs list so far from their sources.
It is due to release Holiday 2024 with a big focus on a custom upscaling solution. This part of the puzzle had led to fans speculating how much better the PS5 Pro will run GTA VI over the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
We recently covered an analyst saying “Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry”.
However, it appears the big bet PlayStation are putting on GTA VI might not come off like they think according to experts like Richard Leadbetter. Mr Leadbetter kicked off the latest Digital Foundry video saying he’s seen the PS5 Pro documents and can confirm the specs of the new console.
He also tells fans not to expect GTA VI will run on a PS5 Pro based on these leaked specs. The reason being is that the Pro console is set to only receive a 10% boost in CPU performance. This is not enough to double the frame rate from 30 to 60.
“You know all of the sort of conjectures that “Hey, this is going to be a great box for Grand Theft Auto 6, we’ll be able to run that at 60 frames per second…” unless there’s some magical CPU stuff being done by Rockstar, I suggest that’s not going to happen. Extra 10% on clocks isn’t really going to do much at all.
Richard Leadbetter
Richard has a track record of revealing accurate information on hardware such as Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Not only has Leadbetter and Digital Foundry shared reliable details ahead of time, they have worked with Microsoft and more to analyse and educate on new hardware.
It is possible Rockstar Games make a 60FPS quality mode for the PS5 Pro but sacrifice on the visuals a lot. Is that something Rockstar would be willing to do? We’ll have to wait and see.
Insider Gaming also reported last week that dev kits are already in hands of Sony’s first own studios along with third parties. Partners have had access to development versions of the console since January this year. We’d expect Rockstar Games to be one of those main third party studios receiving PS5 Pro dev kits.
