GTA 6 details have been confirmed in a statement by Rockstar Games and their parent company Take-Two Interactive.
The pair of companies have issued a press release that announced GTA 6 along with a few key details such as the name of the fictional state the game will be set in. Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games made a rare statement on GTA VI.
Following the leaked trailer which forced Rockstar Games to release the GTA VI trailer 15 hours earlier than expected, we finally have learned details about this game officially from the company.
From San Andreas to…
GTA V is set in a fictional state, San Andreas, which is based on California. Whilst we’ve known Vice City will be the main urban area of Grand Theft Auto VI’s map, many have wondered what the name of the sate will be. Rockstar Games have confirmed the state set in GTA 6 is named Leonida.
Leonida can also be seen by name in the trailer in this shot of an NPC causing a scene in the middle of a road.
Next generation gaming
They also go onto say “Leonida is home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games had this to say:
“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
Sam Houser, Rockstar Games Co-Founder
Rockstar Games appear to have shown in their trailer what Sam is referring to. It certainly feels like a step up in gaming.
This is similar to what Take-Two said about GTA V in August 2022. CEO Strauss Zelnick said that “development is well underway” on the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto Series. He went onto say the teams at Rockstar Games are “determined to set creative benchmarks for the series, industry and entertainment”.
Platforms confirmed, no PC
Also inside the press release, Rockstar Games confirmed the game would be releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in 2025. There is no mention of the game releasing on PC at this time. We talked about how this was expected here.
