It isn’t just a slight majority of people pre-ordering the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition. It’s almost everyone. That’s according to a new report.
Last week, we learned from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick that GTA 6’s $100 version is selling more than the standard one. This surprised a lot of people even without any sort of number to go with it. Now a new stat presents an even more staggering look into the game’s finances.
According to analytics firm Sensor Tower via GamesIndustry.biz, 89% of preorders for GTA VI are for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition rather than the $79.99 standard edition. Sensor Tower are considered a fairly reputable source for data.
The firm also claims the split of editions across both XBOX and PlayStation. 90% of XBOX players bought the Ultimate Edition whereas just 11.5% bought the Standard Edition on Playstation. It is worth noting the Ultimate Edition content can be purchased separately too plus premium editions of games always do best during the pre-order phase.
Comparing To Other Games

Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower told GamesIndustry.biz that premium pre-orders are biggest SKU pre-launched due to the more dedicated fans making the purchase.
Standard edition sales are expected to rise as time goes on but the split will be still above industry standards. By launch it should be split 50/50 with many pre-orders coming in the final week before release. That’s based on industry norms so it could all be thrown out given Grand Theft Auto VI is simply not close to being normal.
Interestingly, Kontus reveals that he’s not seen a number close to being 90% before. They would typically see 10 to 20% of sales being from the premium edition. Achieving 50% would be considered fantastic.
GTA 6 Sales
The VP also talked about sales figures. Based on industry standard trajectories, the roughly 4.3 million pre-orders (according Sensor Tower data) so far would turn into 40 million copies sold as of launch day. But again this game is extremely difficult to predict We’ve not seen anything like it before. That’s about $2 billion in sales.
Marketing for GTA VI hasn’t even truly kicked off yet. There are still a few months to go before launch. So much can and will happen before then. Have you pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition? Let us know down in the comment section below.
