Rockstar Games have made some big changes to GTA Online by slashing how much you can earn from selling your vehicles. Ever since the beginning, players have visited Los Santos Customs to trade in cars they no longer want for quick cash. Unfortunately, this money making method is now far less effective.
New system in place and its details
Back in December’s The Chop Shop update, Rockstar Games added a new system in the backend titled Daily Vehicle Sell Price Adjustments. Insider Tez2 shared details about it and how it was not currently live in the game.
As of Tuesday, Rockstar have set this system live meaning all of its changes are part of GTA Online now. Below are all of the changes and how it impacts selling personal vehicles.
The intention of this Price Adjustment is to reduce the cost of each vehicle you sell. If you log into GTA Online and sell a vehicle you’ll get 100% of the expected sell price of that vehicle as normal.
However, if you sell a second vehicle it will reduce to 50% of the sell price. A third vehicle drops down to 20% and a fourth onwards is just 5%. This means vehicles worth millions of dollars will give you just tens of thousands of dollars instead.

Reset the cooldown
There is a way to combat this though. The cooldown period between each car sale dropping in price is 18 hours in real life. So, if you enter GTA Online and sell a car you’ll get 100% of the sell price.
If you come back in 18 hours time in real life, you’ll get 100% of the sell price again. If you sell another vehicle before within that 18 hour cool down has ended, it’ll drop to 50% and so on.
Having to wait almost an entire real world day to sell a personal vehicle at a fair price will be a big blow to some players. Some people use this feature legitimately and this has not been communicated publicly by Rockstar themselves.
This is on top of the huge nerf to personal vehicle sell limit. Back in September last year, Rockstar implemented changes to how many cars you could sell every 24 hours. Tez2 revealed how the old limit was reduced from 20 vehicles to 10 for example. Tez2 explained that this is to “crack down on dupe glitchers”.
