Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former lead creative director Dan Houser has revealed some interesting details about himself both in the past and present. Plus, some additional teasers for his next game which is an open world title much like his previous games: GTA and Red Dead Redemption.
As part of the press tour for this first ever book, A Better Paradise, Houser took part in an interview for Virgin Radio UK’s Chris Evans Breakfast Show. Evans asked Houser a wide range of questions covering his personal and professional life over the course of half an hour. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting quotes from the interview.
A listener of the show wrote in saying Evans needs to be a radio host in either GTA 6 or GTA 7. He then asked if the games are on their way to which Houser responded with “I don’t work there anymore but I would assume so. They’ve been working a long time.
Dan’s Personal Life And Gaming Setup
Next up, Dan talked about his personal life and family. He shared his son is a massive gamer but prefers to play other games and not Rockstar Games titles his dad worked on. As for how Dan games himself, he plays with a “very normal TV” just “like normal people” and no gaming den.
In terms of platform of choice, Dan says sometimes all of them are plugged in all of the time although he and his family are not “super hardcore”; especially himself. Currently, Dan only has a Wii plugged in at home as his main platform despite being worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Whereas his son uses a PlayStation and gaming PC which Dan says is “too technical” for him.

Unfortunately, Dan and his family are in-between houses at this moment in time due to the Palisades Fire from the start of this year. Dan reveals they are living in a rented house as they have been unable to move back to their home. He does note that they will be moving back in just a few weeks. The fire ended up burning down the school of Dan’s youngest daughter.
“I’m hoping they have some water this time. I don’t know. The community is strong there and there’s a great deal of of sort of community spirit that’s really inspiring and a great deal of frustration with the local government that’s uninspiring and that’s sort of basically living in Los Angeles. Everyone finds the government there very frustrating.”
Will He Keep Making Games?
Another Chris Evans Breakfast Show lister wrote in to asking to never stop making games. Dan said on air that his wife would like him to retire at some point but he believes he is too young at this moment in time to stop making games and he loves working on fun projects.
“I still care about units because it’s a good metric. It’s really captivating because you also because you get obsessed by the tail moving down too quickly. You want things to keep selling. The games got so big. You want people to love them the way you put the passion in.”
Game Update

To top of the interview, Dan gave a small tease on how his next game is coming along. Set in the A Better Paradise franchise, it will be an open-world action/adventure game.
He reveals they are “about a quarter to a third into making it” and it has been in development for 18 months. As for how long is left, Houser thinks there is 3 to 4 years until release day. The game is currently looking “very beautiful looking and is the world is very pretty” according to Dan.
There is another book coming but as for films, Dan says they are looking into doing a film or TV show “a little bit” due to how the game is looking. If you’d like to listen to the full interview, you can do so here.
