A new month’s worth of chart data is in from PlayStation and other sources. Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued to dominate downloads whilst GTA V is in an interesting spot. Let’s take a look at how it things went for Rockstar Games in September.
GTA V Downloads After 12 Years
PlayStation shared their monthly game charts this week for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads throughout September. In August, the game was the 2nd most downloaded title in Europe whereas it came in 6th for USA and Canada. Rockstar’s blockbuster turned 12 years old in September and it slipped a few places. In Europe, it dropped to 6th position and 7th in North America. This is not too surprising given the release of EA FC 26, Hollow Knight Silksong, Borderlands 4, NBA 2K26 and Dying Light: The Beast.
A similar story can be seen in the PS4 charts. It fell from 4th place in Europe to 6th place. Interestingly, it gained 1 spot in the US/Canada chart to 5th. With October being the month of the Halloween event, we could see the game regain a few places in the next chart update.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Continues Reign

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains the most downloaded PS4 game in the US/Canada in September. This is the 3rd month in a row after a two month break. This means Red Dead 2 has now been the most downloaded game 8 months out of 10 this year.
However, it lost the top spot in the European chart to new release EA FC 26. With a new version of Red Dead 2 seemingly on the horizon, that will place it in the PS5 charts. We’ll certainly enjoy seeing how that affects charts.
Sales Data
We also have some sales data coming in for Europe for the week ending September 21st via The Game Business from GSD. In terms of copies sold, GTA V was the 3rd best selling game when physical and digital copies were combined. This was down 11% from the previous week. Only EA FC 26 and Borderlands 4 beat it. Red Dead Redemption 2 came in 6th place; down 15% from a week ago. GTA Online’s standalone version was down 6% but still maintained a modest 8th place.
In terms of revenue, GTA V came in 7th position with a decrease of 7% week on week. Meanwhile Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived in 9th place down 8%. In other interesting chart data, sales figures of the classic GTA Trilogy in Japan have been revealed. Learn more here.
