Professor uses GTAV to show off American Gun Violence

It’s no secret that there is a gun violence issue in America. With nearly 100 Americans being killed by guns every day. Joseph Delappe, a Professor, and artist at the Abertay University is now using Grand Theft Auto V in his new digital piece to raise awareness on the issue.

‘Elegy: GTA USA Gun Homicides. is a self-playing version of Grand Theft Auto V, which was created by Professor Joseph Delappe. The game will restart every night at midnight on Twitch. It will reenact the total number of USA Homicides since January 1st, 2018 and will use data automatically from GunViolenceArchive to update the amount of in-game dead body count. Every day the new data will be used to increase the number of people killed in-game

This project was launched on July 4th, 2018 and will run for an entire year. This is done with modifications on the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V and no one is controlling the game.

On Game Scenes, Delappe posts ‘the project visualizes real life gun-related homicides in the United States of America through the filter of a video game. (As NRA fanatics love to say, Guns don’t kill people, video games do.)’

You can watch the GTA USA Homicide live stream here. With ‘God Bless America’ playing on Loop.
