YouTube have commissioned an original series set within the world of GTA and RP server nopixel. This comes alongside the release of the fifth and most innovative version of nopixel and Rockstar Games’ involvement with the server.
In a tweet from prominent nopixel streamer Buddha, NoPixel News is a brand new show from himself and YouTube. The content creator describes it as a way to catch up with all of the “biggest moments, storylines, and chaos from NoPixel.” There will be a new episode every Monday at 10:00 a.m. PST recapping the previous week. It will run for 18 episodes. Buddha also mentions that this is completely “powered by YouTube”.
The first episode released last week features Buddha and Burn as the hosts and Caylus as a special guest reporter. It’s stylised as a new broadcast and filmed within GTA. The “powered by YouTube” branding was clearly visible. The broadcast also contained clips from nopixel co-owner xQc, Sidemen Zerkaa, erobb and more.
Building A YouTube Universe
This is not the first time YouTube have put up money to create a sponsored series involving the famous roleplay server. We reported last year how the company pitched CayPlay an original series involving Caylus going into nopixel.
The series was mixed in success as a few episodes achieved over a million views whereas the finale couldn’t even break 100,000 views. For a channel that has over 20 million subscribers that’s pretty bad. It’s unknown how much this series cost to produce but YouTube must have given Caylus, the production team and the nopixel staff who worked on the episodes quite a bit of money. So it’s a bit surprising YouTube have opted to do more Caylus/nopixel content.
