A new Rockstar Games LA studio appears to have been revealed through a job listing this week. Rockstar Games posted a new role just a few days ago for an Electronics Engineer in Los Angeles, California. On their official website for careers the job is listed under Rockstar LA.
Rockstar Games, up until this point, did not have a studio called Rockstar LA. Now they have one in the city GTA V’s Los Santos is based on.

The company does have the legendary San Diego studio not too far away from LA but this appears to be another office set up in California.
First spotted by Rockstar Universe on Twitter, it is interesting only one job is open currently and this is how we found out about Rockstar LA. The games studio have not shared any details on the LA studio anywhere at this time.

However, further digging shows Rockstar acquired motion capture specialists Standard Deviation who are based in Santa Monica, LA. The Rockstar Games website features a webpage that says “Standard Deviation is now a part of Rockstar Games.”
Delving deeper
The Electronics Engineer job listing page shares more details. It states the successful candidate will “join a team focused on designing and building cutting-edge hardware tools for motion capture and game production.”
On top of that the job is “based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in Santa Monica.” This reveals the Rockstar LA studio is located in Santa Monica, the inspiration for Del Perro in GTA V. The studio is also said to be a unique game development studio.

Furthermore, the job role states “We design and build cutting-edge hardware tools for motion capture and game production.” and “We collaborate closely with our stakeholders to create and invent new devices.” The new engineer will “Conceptualize, design, build and support electronic devices, not limited to cameras and sensors, to be used for performance capture.”
This makes it more likely the Rockstar LA studio will be mostly doing motion capture work for their future games such as GTA 6.
Coincidentally, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser launched his new studio based out of Santa Monica earlier this summer.
