UPDATE: Rockstar Games have confirmed the GTA Online Summer Update, San Andreas Mercenaries, will indeed release on June 13th as we have reported below. For full details on this update, check out our article here.
The new GTA Online DLC, an expected summer update, has a release date according to credible Rockstar Games insider TezFunz2. The best part is this new content update is said to release much earlier than you think.
Tez claims in a new Tweet, Rockstar Games will release the next chapter in GTA Online on June 13th. This is in less than two weeks at the time of writing. The June 13th release date for this update is not official yet and Tez does say it is subject to change.
It will only be confirmed for real by Rockstar Games in a newswire post in the coming week. We’ll keep you updated when news breaks so stay tuned to RockstarINTEL.
This information follows Tez spotting two weeks ago Rockstar said the current GTA+ month will end on June 12th. As we reported on when the latest month launched, Rockstar said it ended on June 7th.
This accidental reveal had the community speculating the next GTA Online update will release on June 13th, a day after GTA+ is extended.
However, Rockstar changed the typo and have yet to communicate if GTA+ will be extended. Tez also explains that two weeks before GTA+’s current month ends, Rockstar updates the backend tunables to display a notification when logging into GTA Online. This has not happened yet despite being three into this GTA+ month.
What to expect from the Summer update
Looking back in time, summer GTA Online updates typically release late in July or early August. This mid-June release is unexpected which is raising eyebrows. One theory is Rockstar Games have the reveal of GTA 6 planned for in a few months so the summer update has been brought forward. This is purely speculation but approximately 6 weeks earlier is certainly a big change.
Each summer, Rockstar Games delivers a significant content update to Grand Theft Auto Online. Late in last July, we saw the release of The Criminal Enterprises. It contained new secret agent story missions and some highly requested quality of life changes.
These included nerfs to the Oppressor Mk II and bigger payouts. Previous summer updates have included “Los Santos Tuners” plus the “The Diamond Casino & Resort“.
Anticipation for this big summer content drop has been growing in recent months following the conclusion of Los Santos Drug Wars. That content update had been drip-fed over the course of several months, far longer than previous updates to GTA Online to players dismay but Rockstar’s gain.
As for what this update is said to contain, it is all up in the air. Rockstar have teased more quality of life improvements but nothing concrete on actual content. One thing Rockstar did say back in April is that they will “share more details on this as well as other fine-tuning efforts and service updates soon.”
Back in November 2022, it was leaked a new music creation mechanic would be coming to GTA Online but so far we’ve not heard anything since then. Could that arrive in the next update?
