The next GTA Online update titled San Andreas Mercenaries has been officially announced by Rockstar Games. This year’s GTA Online summer update is centred around brand new private military aircraft content and quality of life improvements.
Rockstar have released a lot of details of this new DLC along with screenshots. We’ll be going through everything we know about this upcoming update.
San Andreas Mercenaries Release Date
GTA Online San Andreas Mercenaries will release on June 13th across all current GTA Online platforms. These are the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
New story details
According to Rockstar, you’ll be joining forces with “team of elite pilots and ex-military operators to do battle against the monolithic forces of San Andreas’ largest private military”.
A new character, Charlie Reed, has been revealed. Reed is said to be an ace pilot and handy mechanic. He’s put together an aviation guns-for-hire group labelled the Los Santos Angels.
This group you will be part of has plenty of ways to make money from “stealing sensitive data from server farms, conducting raids” to “dropping explosive payloads on high-value targets” across the state of San Andreas.
The Mammoth Avenger is set to become an enhanced aerial command center. This will contain “a new Operations Terminal and weapons system upgrades.” Meanwhile on the ground, you will be able to run “valuable contraband as well as come across spontaneous opportunities to liberate cash and commodities from lucrative roving targets.”
Rockstar state a new range of upgrades for the Avenger and Hangar will be made available. The Avenger can also be stored in your hangar. You can also store and access this machine without owning a Hangar or Facility.
New weapons, vehicles and events
In addition to everything above, Rockstar Games say there will be a selection of new random events, a tactical SMG for shooting on the road, daily time trials and more.
They have provided us all with screenshots that reveals two new vehicles. The muscle car looks to be inspired by the Dodge Charger EV. Meanwhile the off-road vehicle resembles a Mitsubishi Pajero Evo.
Jet fans will also be pleased. This screenshot shows a new stealth fighter jet inspired by the F-35 Lightning II. Expect more vehicles to be part of this update releasing as drip-feed content throughout the summer.
Quality of life improvements
Just like the recent updates to GTA Online, Rockstar are bringing even more fan requested changes to the game. Here are just some of them:
- When calling Mors Mutual Insurance, you’ll be able to claim all destroyed vehicles at once.
- An alternate sprint control option (hold to sprint) will be added to the Settings Menu.
- Custom description tags for garages to help quickly locate your favorite rides.
- The Willard Eudora and Albany Classique Broadway will become eligible for Taxi Work when using Taxi Liveries.
- Updates to the Creator to incorporate additional props and weather options, including snow.
Rockstar Games also urged players to submit more GTA Online feedback on their website here.
Even more to come…
Rockstar ended their newswire post on this update by saying we should “Stay tuned for additional info to be revealed about this summer’s update, including details on new gameplay, vehicles, activities, special upcoming weekly events and celebrations, and more.”
As we are less than two weeks away from release, expect this extra info within the next week. It will also be interesting to see what special events and celebrations they have in store for us! You can check out this week’s event info here.
