Rockstar Games have announced the next look at GTA 6 is coming very soon. The company have finally revealed a release date for a new gameplay video after so many weeks of silence. There is also brand new artwork and more to take a look at. Plus, the announcement comes with quite a surprise.
In a post made on their website, Rockstar Games say that the Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix. Yes, seriously. The streaming service has the new look at the upcoming title. The gameplay preview will go live at 3pm ET / 8pm BST on Thursday, August 27th.
This might seem a bit strange to most people but Take-Two/Rockstar and Netflix have a great relationship. For a few years now, classic Rockstar Games titles have been made available to play on mobile for free with a Netflix subscription. This led to GTA San Andreas achieving nearly 60 million downloads by Netflix members. Red Dead Redemption most recently hit over 10 million downloads not long after its release last year.
Netflix Speaks
In a post on the Netflix website, Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series had this to say:
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
The company note’s that this is a “first-of-its-kind partnership” and that this collaboration “represents the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix.”
Netflix’s page for the extended look is also live. You can set a reminder notification so you won’t miss the event. The video description says “Coming August 27: See an extended look at “Grand Theft Auto VI”, the next evolution in the groundbreaking “Grand Theft Auto” series.”
For those who do not pay a monthly subscription to Netflix, you will be able to watch it at a later time on Rockstar’s YouTube channel or their website. The time for those sources is on August 27th at 9pm ET so 6 hours later than Netflix. This choice has made some fans quite upset on social media.
