Meta have refused to reveal if GTA San Andreas VR is still in development or not. Many VR gamers have been pleading with Meta and Rockstar Games to talk about the virtual reality version of GTA SA. This answer is not going to be satisfactory.
Why have fans been desperate for a comment from Meta or Rockstar? During their 2021 Connect livestream, Meta announced GTA San Andreas VR was in-development at Rockstar Games. This was quite the surprise announcement given the game is quite old now.
Over two years have passed since its announcement and neither Meta nor Rockstar have talked about the project. Until now. Sort of…
Meta finally responds
During Connect 2023, two VR news sites asked Meta about the current status of GTA San Andreas VR. Meta responded to Road to VR with “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas.“ When asked by UploadVR, Meta said “no comment”. Thanks for asking you two.
Both of these comments (rather no comments) don’t say it has been cancelled but also aren’t very bright about the project’s future. If it had been cancelled they would just say, you’d think?
Due to the silence on Rockstar and Meta’s side, it seems like the majority of fans looking forward to this VR port have given up hope and assume it has been cancelled. It’s very strange that neither parties will not come out and say if it has been or if it’s still being worked on.
Hope and disappointment
Meta hold a few live showcases a year to reveal new VR games and the livestream chat is spammed with fans asking for GTA San Andreas VR. All the hope is dashed as the stream ends without any acknowledgement of the game.
The chance of GTA San Andreas VR news popping up in the remaining part of 2023 seems fairly unlikely at this stage. Perhaps 2024 is the year of GTA San Andreas VR? We can only hope, if we have any hope left.
Stay tuned to RockstarINTEL for whenever Meta or Rockstar Games GTA San Andreas VR again. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the project.
