GTA San Andreas VR Has Been Delayed “Indefinitely” By Meta and Rockstar Games

The eagerly and long-awaited GTA San Andreas VR port has finally had an official update from Meta. It is one that many had expected to happen but not the one fans wanted.

Just as we close in on 3 years since Meta announced GTA San Andreas VR for Meta Quest and years of silence, the company has shared where the project stands. In statement to IGN, Meta say the game has been out “on hold indefinitely.”

On top of that, IGN shared Meta had responded to fans on their YouTube channel via comments saying “GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects. We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”

Whilst the door is not completely closed, this is as dire as it could be for the virtual reality version of GTA San Andreas. As a huge fan of VR and GTA, it is such a shame Rockstar Games and Meta could not get this out already. Given Rockstar’s all hands on deck status for GTA 6, it does not come as any big surprise.

At least Meta came out and said something ahead of Meta Connect 2024. Their annual event takes place in September and every year fans go crazy asking for an update on GTA SA VR.

It was just last month Meta replied to a fan on their YouTube channel and commented “Hey there! Indeed we don’t have a release date yet, but we’re working on it!”. Meta swiftly removed their YouTube comment.

During Meta Connect 2023, which took place in October last year, two VR news sites asked Meta about the then current status of GTA San Andreas VR. Meta replied to Road to VR with “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas.“ When asked by UploadVR, Meta said “no comment”.

In other Rockstar Games VR news, we learned that VR studio Video Games Deluxe are working with Rockstar on projects last month. The company itself said so in a statement. That game or projects remain a mystery but stay tuned to RockstarINTEL for whenever Rockstar Games talk VR again.
