A huge GTA V leak just happened and it has revealed a lot of cut content for GTA Online along with Story DLC, and a Bully 2 mention. However, this leak also poses huge risks for cheating in GTA Online. What we know so far will be all shared in this article.
What is this leak?
Late on Sunday, word began to spread that GTA V’s PDB has been leaked. PDB stands for Program Debug Database. This is a system that keeps debugging information about a program, such as GTA V. This is all leftover data when they were debugging the game.
Twitter/X user GlowDevs who has worked with the FiveM team and is now part of the GTA Series Arcade team explains that “pretty much the whole rage engine, all struct/field and flag names for all resource types while the actual executable the debug pdb belongs to is a tool used to generate road nodes“.
New GTA Online DLC “Cops N’ Crooks” details
The Cops N’ Crooks DLC update for GTA Online was reportedly cancelled a few years ago. Revealed by reputable leaker in the community Tez, a Cops and Crooks mode for GTA Online at launch was cut.
However, the idea was still on the cards as an update for GTAO. That was also cancelled according to Bloomberg’s sources. Titled Cops ‘n’ Crooks, players could play as both sides. The reason behind its cancellation was due to real life police brutality and awareness that happened in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by police. The Bloomberg report said management did not want to put it out as it would appear in poor taste. Sources also say there have been no plans to open up development on it for GTA Online.
In the new GTA V PDB leak, there are references to content that could have been in that cancelled update. As these are just text strings, it is possible some of this was not part of the update and even completely unrelated. Nothing is 100% confirmed.
The text mentions 8 different roles, 4 for each side:
- Cop
- Crook
- Officer
- Tactical
- Tech
- Solider
- Enforcer
- Hacker
GlowDevs also found references to a flash grenade and barging (through doors?). On top of that, there would have been some abilities that both sides would use. These contained:
- Ghosting
- Oil
- Slick
- EMP Mines
- Spike Mines
- Bullbars
- Sprint Boost Increase
More details on the Cops N’ Crooks update include XP Boosts which GlowDevs speculates was a progression system “similar to Arena Wars”.
We reported on some the content before when it was rumoured to show up in last years Los Santos Drug Wars update here. Sadly, this content did not end up being what was expected.
Cut GTA V Story DLC
According to a finding by GlowDevs, there was single player DLC for GTA V based on this text string that reads “Prop SP A Jetpack” (SP stands for single player).
What does this mean for GTA Online?
The PDB allows users to understand how the game works. It offers names for variables, functions and could allow for easier reverse engineering. It is unknown at this time how this may affect cheating/hacking within GTA Online. It may allow for greater non-harmful mods as well.
Bully 2 mentions
Found by reliable community member @WildBrick142, a list of text strings contain various games Rockstar Games have had in development. These range from as far back as Red Dead Revolver, GTA VI and Red Dead Redemption to as recent as GTA V on PC. The list also contains “Bully2” except it is not what you might think.
Whilst we’ve reported on reliable Bully 2 leaks in the past with its apparent reveal set for 2021, and exclusively reported on casting calls for it in 2018. Don’t expect it to see it any time soon. Here’s why…
Bully 2 may have been how Rockstar noted down Bully’s Scholarship Edition here. Why is this? Rockstar list Red Dead Revolver as rdr1. Red Dead Redemption 2 is listed as rdr2. It’s sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2 is rdr3. You will also see MC4 which is Midnight Club LA.
Some will also have spotted “jimmy” in the list above. This is nothing to do with Bully as GlowDevs explains here; could be to do with map loading and more. However, it could also be Agent, the cancelled James Bond style game Rockstar were working on. The codename jimmy was used for agent as confirmed in a brand new blog post by a former Rockstar Games developer.
