Red Dead Redemption 2 was the most downloaded PS4 game last month

Following in GTA V’s footsteps, Red Dead Redemption 2 was the most downloaded PS4 game last month. It dominated the PlayStation game download charts whilst also selling a bunch of copies too. Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V had a record breaking year last year but their form has not dropped off two months into 2024.

New reports with verified data shows these two titles from Rockstar Games just keep on going despite their age and brand new blockbuster releases.

Brand new breakout releases knock GTA V down after 11 years

PlayStation released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games on Thursday. During February, Grand Theft Auto V was the 5th most downloaded PS5 game across all of Europe. This is down from first place in January.

It also lost some places in the US/Canada chart going from 2nd to 7th. The reason for the drop in both chart placements can be attributed to the release of Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and more.

As for the PS4 chart, it was a similar story. In January, GTA V was 6th place in both charts but slipped to 8th in North America. However it remained in 6th position across Europe.

During the month of February, Rockstar Games removed the Rockstar Editor from last gen (PS4 and Xbox One). It is possible some players have decided now is the time to ditch their decade old console in favour for the current hardware to play GTA V and GTA Online on.

It will be interesting to see if The Cluckin’ Farm Raid content that released in March brings players back to GTA Online for PS5 and PS4. We’ll get March’s charts this time next month.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is king on PS4 once again

Red Dead Redemption 2 has seen an unwavering amount of success in the past year or so. We reported back in December that it was the 2nd most downloaded game of the month in the US/Canada and Europe charts. Last month saw it keep 2nd and move to 4th respectively.

However, in February it retook the top spot on the podium in both the European and US/Canada charts. This is most impressive for a game 5 years past its release date. The most recent month it was the most downloaded PlayStation 4 game was in October last year.

UK charts show stability and improvement

The monthly UK games charts are in for February. According to the data given out by GSD via gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the 5th best selling game when all disc and digital sales were combined. This is the same as the last two months.

Whereas Red Dead Redemption 2 moved up from 8th position to 7th, this is a second month of improvement.
