GTA V and Red Dead Redemption maintains places in charts despite big, new releases

Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have continued their strong form from most of 2023 in terms of sales and downloads. The results of October 2023 show these two from Rockstar Games beat out titles newly released in 2023.

New reports with verified data shows these two titles from Rockstar Games just keep on going despite their age and brand new blockbuster releases. We’re over close to the end of the year now and the two titles are hanging on towards the top of the charts.

PlayStation reveals GTA V clings on despite massive new games

PlayStation have released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games. During September, GTA V was the 6th most downloaded game in all of Europe. Across the Atlantic, it was the 8th most downloaded game in September for the US and Canada.

Despite new game releases, GTA 5 only slipped in one chart and went up some places in another during October. In the USA and Canada it was 10th. Meanwhile in Europe, it came in 4th position, up two places. The drop in downloads can be attributed to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Remedy’s Alan Wake 2.

As for the PS4 chart, it was a similar story. In Europe, it moved down into 5th place whereas in North America it stayed in 6th place.

Red Dead Redemption 2 tops the charts

Next up is where Red Dead Redemption’s re-release charted. Due to no native PS5 version being made available, it only shows up on the PS4 charts. Downloads to the PS5 are included in this. Last month, Red Dead Redemption on the PS4 was the 12th most downloaded game in the USA and Canada. Meanwhile in Europe it charted in 13th, down from 2nd.

However it saw quite a drop off in October. It came in 17th place in North America and did not even chart in Europe’s top 20.

Its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, did well in October. For the US and Canada chart, it took the crown as the most downloaded game of the month. This comes after two consecutive months in fourth position. Meanwhile across the pond it charted in 3rd place for a second month running. Red Dead 2 can only be counted in the PS4 chart as there is only a PS4 version. Downloads to PS5 consoles are included in this.

Rockstar sells strong across Europe

The monthly European games charts are in for October. According to the data given out by GSD via gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the 5th best selling game. It only lost out to big, new releases like EA Sports FC 24, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros Wonder. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 was the 9th best selling game when all disc and digital sales were combined.
