Video streaming platform giant YouTube and popular GTA RP server nopixel are working together to sponsor videos. The move is a surprising but also relevant collaboration as GTA RP content is extremely popular in the online vod and live streaming space.
This comes days after Rockstar Games announced they are working on the next iteration of nopixel. However, some nopixel fans have suggested the content might be scripted over improvisation which takes away from the RP element. More on that in this article.
Announced in a Tweet by content creator known as Caylus, YouTube and nopixel are paying him to play on the server in a series of videos. Caylus has gained nearly 20 million subscribers on his gaming YouTube channel largely from his GTA V content. Some of the GTA V videos have amassed tens of millions of views.
In a recent video, Caylus plays nopixel for the very first time. Whilst he does not mention this video is sponsored by YouTube and nopixel, there is a YouTube branded outro and in the description it says #SponsoredbyYouTube.
The content creator confirmed the video is an advertisement on Twitter saying “This might be one of the craziest moments of my YouTube career so far. I am beyond excited to announce that I have partnered with @YouTubeGaming & @nopixeltweets for a 12-part GTA V RP series.”
This reveals he will be doing several more sponsored nopixel videos. It will be a limited series that takes place over the next few months with around 2 videos releasing per month according to RevRoach aka Happy of nopixel. Caylus continued by saying “These conversations started almost a year ago so I am thrilled to have it come to life. #SponsoredByYouTube #NoPixel #GTARP.” This series has been long in-development it seems.
Looking Deeper

This is quite interesting that YouTube and nopixel are paying creators to play GTA RP. YouTube rarely sponsor content like this and this might be a first for GTA RP. Less than 100 videos use the SponsoredByYouTube tag and most of them are shorts with only a dozen or few hundred views meaning they probably were not actually paid for by YouTube. We’ve seen Rockstar Games themselves support various GTA RP servers and creators in the past so this is nothing too different.
Travis Richardson of Makers First took to Linkedin to say this was an ambitious project and ” is the first series of its kind. A creator-led, 12-part GTA V NoPixel roleplay story officially powered by YouTube.” The goal is to bring the “bridge the gap between the complex, incredible storylines of NoPixel and the YouTube format” making “easy-to-consume episodes for a global audience.” Richardson ends his post by thanking the teams at YouTube and nopixel.
Content Concerns
Given than GTA RP is all improvised, some nopixel fans took to reddit to question if this video was scripted as it was not a live stream and it felt not as natural. Thankfully, it has been put to bed. A Reddit user noticed that RevRoach discussed the video in a recent stream. RevRoach along with others will be playing multiple characters. They are seemingly filming one episode a week. “There’s some story written but a lot of the in character stuff that’s being filmed is mostly improv.”
Shoutout to Capped for hooking us up with the opportunity, nopixel management for passing that along. Real cool. It’s all RP.
