Rockstar Games are no stranger to references between their games and GTA Online’s latest content is no different. The company released the second and final part in the Los Santos Drug Wars saga this week titled The Last Dose. It includes 5 new missions that continue the narrative of GTA Online.
Twitter user @GrandTheftLore, who does a fantastic job at curating interesting information about the GTA series, shared some little details in the new missions that call back to classic Grand Theft Auto games.
Supa Save! Returns
In the 4th mission of Last Dose titled Checking In, Dax can be heard saying a line featuring Supa Save! This was a chain of supermarkets found in GTA III and GTA San Andreas. Grand Theft Lore notes a particularly interesting thing; this is the first time Supa Save! is mentioned in the GTA HD Universe. If you’re not aware, the HD Universe started with GTA IV back in 2008.
Friedlander goes corperate
In the story of The Last Dose, Michael’s former therapist, Dr. Isiah Friedlander launches the FriedMind Pharmaceutical Corporation. As noticed by Grand Theft Lore, this is the first pharmaceutical corporation in the form of a main antagonist since GTA 2. That game features the Zaibatsu Corporation.
WASTED is fine
Another fun thing is that Checking In is only the second mission in all of the GTA series to be completed whilst having to be wasted. GTLore states the first mission was from the original GTA game from the late 90’s. The mission was called Heist Almighty – Itali.
Even more Los Santos Drug Wars connections
Grand Theft Lore produced a similar Twitter thread on the first part of this GTA Online DLC. For example graffiti might be a reference to a GTA III mission and Labrat could also be a call-back to Dr. LaBrat from GTA 2. We’d highly recommend checking out Grand Theft Lore’s full thread right here. And if you’re a fan of the details in GTA, the account is certainly worth a follow.
