The upcoming GTA Online DLC is now available to download but there’s a catch. We also still do not know the actual name of the update nor the exact release date from Rockstar. However, this pre-load does give us the release date ahead of Rockstar confirming it themselves.
Some fans expect Rockstar Games to unveil the update’s name, release date and potentially a trailer on Monday 11th December. It has been speculated the reason behind this being left until the day before is due to GTA VI’s trailer.
What is this “pre-load”?
Much like how the San Andreas Mercenaries update download was put out early, Rockstar Games have done the same here with this winter’s GTA Online update.
This update can only be downloaded on PS5 and PS4. You can’t play the new update either. It is simply just to save you time when the patch officially releases. The pre-load has also confirmed when it will release.
When will the update release?
The first time a pre-load happened for a GTA Online update was with the San Andreas Mercenaries DLC. The San Andreas Mercenaries was able to be downloaded 48 hours early.
Tuesday has been the expected release date for this Winter Update. The latest GTA+ month and Event Week end dates were extended to Monday 11th December. Reputable GTA Online insider, Tez2, Tweeted that December 12th is the expected GTA Online DLC release date.
In a screenshot posted by Gtamen, the install date and time is on Tuesday 12th December at 11am CET, the usual time. Despite no confirmation from Rockstar Games, this is when the GTA Online Winter Update will release.
Download size
The GTA Online Winter update’ pre-load was first spotted by TheGhost on Twitter. Gtamen then posted a screenshot of the update being downloaded on PS5. It comes in at 6.212GB and is version 1.006.000. According to GTA Series, the download sized on PS4 is 3GB.
Unfortunately Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC players will have to wait until Tuesday December 12th at around 10am BST to download the update. We’ll cover their download sizes once they are available.
GTA Online’s Winter Update will add a brand new Salvage Yard business ran by Yusuf Amir from GTA IV The Ballad of Gay Tony. Also part of the update are Drift Races, new vehicles, and long awaited improvements. You can read about everything confirmed so far here.
There have also been several leaks for the update which we’ve reported on here. The leaker has a good track record at leaking info from other games which gives credibility to this information.

11am Central European Time? Strange not to use GMT/UTC (Although I’m amazed they don’t use a USA timezone).
Gtamen is located in the CET time zone so it shows the time in his local time zone. It varies on-screen wherever you are that’s all 🙂
