Rockstar Games has just unveiled new pre-order details for GTA 6, with images and edition details to boot. Including all sorts of pre-order bonuses for the ultimate edition, as well as ‘an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.’ The most noteworthy detail however, is the physical edition.
To put the elephant in the room, the physical edition of GTA 6 does not come with a disc, but rather with a download code. Not only that, it will also be able to be purchased BEFORE launch, starting November 12th. Rockstar states this is to promote pre-loading giving physical buyers the chance to play GTA 6 at the midnight release. Rockstar’s full quote: ‘The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.’
Not including a disc inside the box will be sure to ruffle some feathers across the community, as Rockstar fans are known to be fan of collecting and owning their games on a disc. Releasing it November 12th is also an odd move, although it does give every player a fair chance of playing the game at the same time. That date may also indicate that GTA 6 will be absolutely MASSIVE in file size alone.

Unusual
The only other company actively putting download codes in their physical releases is Nintendo with the Switch 2. It’s the first time seeing a big AAA release going effectively digital only, with the only thing gained from purchasing the physical edition being the cover art (which hopefully includes a steelbook).
