Even though GTA 6 has not been confirmed to release on PC yet, the big boss in charge of Rockstar’s parent company has revealed how the games industry is becoming more about PC than console.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick visited CNBC’s Squawk Box for an interview on Monday of the back of GTA 6‘s delay and the company’s stock drop. He was asked about all sorts of things from GTA 6 to AI. CNBC reported his thoughts on consoles and PC in a dedicated article.
In the live broadcast, Zelnick says he believes the video game industry is ” moving towards PC and business is moving towards open rather than closed”. We have seen Microsoft’s approach change drastically in-line with what he is saying. Valve also announced a console-like PC last week.
The CEO went on to say “But if you define console as the property, not the system, then the notion of a very rich game that you engage in for many hours that you play on a big screen — that’s never going away.” It’s clear features of a PC are trickling down to consoles to keep them more competitive, innovative and interesting. Why? Mobile gaming is growing far quicker than console gaming according to Strauss.

PC Support Will Happen
Rockstar Games have supported PC in the past but typically PC ports come months or years after the initial console release. Rockstar intend to make good PC ports and that has been seen more recently with GTA V and Red Redemption 2. However, GTA IV on PC was a disaster and is still broken to this day on current hardware.
How they’ve continued to support GTA V on PC with new features such as ray tracing has been a step in the right direction. Zelnick previously said “Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we’ve seen before, and they’ll make more announcements in due time. I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this company has done is address consumers anywhere they are, on any platform that makes sense over time.”
Meanwhile Corsair’s CEO believed the game would release on PC in early 2026. Given the game has now been delayed twice since then, that is no longer the case.
