GTA 6 has not been delayed to 2026 from Fall 2025 following a recent rumour that said it would be. It has been a long and fiery few days as the GTA community battled it out online over waiting more months for GTA VI.
It all stems from a Tweet by GTA community member BillsyLiamGTA which set social media ablaze. The Tweet said the game had been delayed to 2026. According to the user, this information is coming from multiple developers across two Rockstar Games offices.
His Tweet read “EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window.” This means the game has moved from a publicly announced Fall 2025 to either Spring or Summer in 2026.
BillsyLiamGTA also shared a detail on the PC version of the game. As we know, Grand Theft Auto VI will only launch on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Typically, Rockstar releases a PC version of the games a year or so after the initial console launch. Whilst we would expect the same for GTA VI, BillsyLiamGTA does say his sources have told him the PC port “is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch.”
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier who previously correctly reported GTA VI’s location, story details, trailer announcement and more has published a Tweet today dispelling any new delay.
He told his followers that six separate Rockstar Games employees told him that they’ve not heard of any sort of delay for GTA VI. Of course, that could still change with the game still about 12 months away from its Fall 2025 date. Schreier notes the game is so big, it still move into 2026 at some point.
The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumor that GTA VI is delayed. Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive
Jason Schreier
Mr Schreier made a follow up Tweet saying it’s entirely possible Rockstar’s management decided to delay the game months ago but those six developers were not informed of such decisions. He said the “lack of internal announcement suggests” the claim from BillsyLiamGTA was not accurate.
Back in February, Schreier reported how Rockstar Games were forcing employees work at the office full time for the rest of GTA VI’s development. Their reasoning for this were worries of productivity slumping and more leaks. At this point GTA VI was aiming for an early 2025 release internally. It has since shifted to Fall 2025.
In other GTA 6 news, Rockstar Games reportedly offered $7500 to the writers of a song. One of those writers took to Twitter to share his frustration with the offer. Rockstar rejected his counter-offer. You can learn more about the situation here.
