The Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look premiered on Netflix on Thursday and it had a massive impact on the streaming giant. When fans first flocked to watch the video, it struggled to play and caused a crash for everyone. After about a minute or so, it was back to smooth sailing.
Now we have some data to show just how popular the special Netflix event was. In a report by GamesBeat with data from Sensor Tower, the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look led to a huge surge in viewership on Netflix. User counts increased by 35% from the for the hour the Extended Look began to the previous hour. This is also a 50% increase over the same time period during the previous day.
Mobile And Desktop Numbers

As for more in-depth data, Netflix usage was strong on mobile during the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look. According to the data firm, Netflix’s mobile app was used around 50% more with the average user count at the same time on the previous 12 Thursdays.
Even though the video was presented in 4K with 5.1 surround sound, a lot of people watched it low resolution on their tiny phone screens. That’s just society these days. As for desktop PC viewing, that increased a lot relative to average viewership on that device type. Web users rose by 125%. At the time of writing, the YouTube version of the video has over 5 million views. It went live several hours after the Netflix premiere.
