It has been announced Rockstar Games are sponsoring the New Years Day Triathlon. This will be the 30th year of the event and the fifth consecutive year the studio behind Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and more are credited as being the title sponsor.
In a post on Tuesday by the official New Years Day Triathlon Facebook page, it says:
“This year we are celebrating 30 editions of the New Years Day Triathlon 2026, and we are delighted that @RockstarGames will once again be our headline sponsor! Their generous and lasting support helps make this race possible.”
Organised by Edinburgh Triathletes, it will take place on January 1st 2026 in Edinburgh. Rockstar North, the lead office of Rockstar, are based in the city too.
Competitors will be swimming, cycling and running alongside many Rockstar Games advertisement boards and cheered on by those with Rockstar Games cowbells (as seen in the photos by Edinburgh Triathletes below). The distance participants will complete are 400m in swimming, 15km in cycling and a 5km run.

Rockstar (Outside Of) Games
Whilst this might surprise many people, it is not Rockstar Games’ first foray into sponsoring sport. For example, Rockstar title sponsored the Red Hook Criterium bike race for several years (which I attended a few times).
They also were the main sponsor of bodyboarding world championships in the early 2000’s among other things like the Signature Cycles Team. More recently, they’ve proudly sponsored up and coming boxer Lucas Roehrig. We also can’t forget Rockstar Games made an entire game about Table Tennis.
