GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games have been hit with yet another scandal within their workplace. This time they have been publicly shamed by the UK government for illegally underpaying several employees.
As spotted by the Daily Mirror, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the tax department of the UK government published a list featuring hundreds of companies who all owed money to staff members.
Rockstar Games UK Limited, the business that encompasses all of the company’s UK studios, was listed at number 235. They were confirmed to have not paid £1,396.73 to five staff members. That’s around £279.34 per person. Based on the address listed by the HMRC, the affected employees work at the lead GTA 6 office, Rockstar North.
This is a tiny amount to Rockstar who bring in billions but to these staff members it is a lot. It is very disappointing to see this occur even if this is around the same payment anomalies you’d expect from companies on this list. The HMRC has ordered Rockstar to pay the full amount to those affected.
Last year, Sam and Dan Houser could be found on the UK Rich List, a collection of the most wealthy Brits. They had a combined net worth of nearly half a billion dollars twelve months ago.
Further Government Action

This issue comes after the company were recently accused of taking taxpayers money whilst earning hundreds of millions without releasing a new game.
It was reported in December that Edinburgh North and Leith MP Tracy Gilbert took to UK Parliament to raise awareness about Rockstar’s tax usage and alleged union busting. The MP dubbed it a “Grand Theft Tax”. You can learn more about Rockstar’s financials from last year here.
Plus, they fired dozens of staff members last year over apparent leaking which is being also described as a union busting move. Much criticism has been levied by politicians and unions.
