The Houser brothers who co-founded Rockstar Games are some of the richest people in the UK and have made even more money despite GTA 6’s delay. Due to the record breaking and long term success of GTA, Red Dead Redemption and more, Sam and Dan Houser are worth hundreds of millions each.
On Monday, The Times published their annual UK Rich List. It shares the 350 most wealthiest people for the region. Sam and Dan Houser who created Rockstar Games and led development on most of the games re-entered the list in 312th position.
The Rockstar co-founders share the position with Sir John Timpson and family, Derek Keys, Graeme & Yvonne Brooks plus Matthew Vaughn & Claudia Schiffer. They are one of the handful of video game related people on the list.
How Much Are They Worth?
In terms of how much the brothers are worth, they have an estimated combined wealth of £400 million ($536m). This is up £50 million from last August alone. The Times revealed a gaming only Rich List back then where they came in 4th place with £350 million ($469m).

In 2020, their finances came in at around £300 so in just 5 years they are now worth £100m more despite not releasing a new game such as GTA 6. Given what should be yet another record shattering release with GTA 6, we should expect their number to increase next year or in 2027 depending when the list is made.
Last year, they were worth the same amount as the most winning F1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton who was in 350th place. Despite the huge move to Ferrari, he is worth less than the brothers together.
Whilst the two brothers have lived in the United States for a long time, they still have their fortunes in the UK. Sam is still Rockstar Games’ president running the company as they are set to release GTA VI. Meanwhile Dan started his own new company Absurd Ventures. They are currently developing two games including an open world action game plus a number of other media.

Money From Royalties
According to a report by Tax Watch UK, three “Principals” (the Houser brothers and Leslie Benzies) plus other unnamed Rockstar employees were entitled to a profit share worth 50% of the operating profit made on Rockstar Games titles.
Between the financial year ending in 2014 and 2019, internal royalties stood at $2.5bn for Take-Two Interactive. In just 2017 alone, GTA V generated royalties of $583 million. 2018 saw it make $383m in royalties; most of the royalties go to the Houser brothers.
