Rockstar Games have officially discontinued direct messaging from within what was Rockstar Social Club. This should not come as much of a surprise. The company have been somewhat quietly removing and changing the longstanding platform over the past few years. Plus, age verification laws are coming into effect across the globe.
Spotted by Rockstar insider and community member Tez2, Rockstar posted a new article on their support site announcing direct messages would no longer be part of social club.
Titled “End of support for player Messages via the Rockstar Games website“, Rockstar tell users that as of September 15th 2025, the messages feature is “no longer available on the Rockstar Games website.” This has led to some fans being quite upset. This is yet another feature taken offline by Rockstar .
This is seperate from the in-game messaging as found in GTA V Legacy on PC; something GTA V Enhanced currently lacks but may gain once age verification is rolled out. Rockstar have recently made tighter restriction tweaks to in-game text chat ahead of age verification requirements.
It also appears Rockstar are looking to 3rd party options for game communication. This includes Discord, a platform they have been pushing for heist collaborations.

Discontinuations Continue
In July, Rockstar removed many key features of the Rockstar Social Club. This led to some people reporting that the entire platform had been shut down. This is not the case. Rockstar are slowly deprecating the platform after almost two decades.
This could be down to a few reasons such as the new age verification laws, lack of usage, cost to maintain the backend, security concerns and more. They even got rid of the iconic branding nearly two years ago.
