A new month’s worth of chart data is in from PlayStation and other sources. Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued to dominate downloads whilst GTA V is in an interesting spot. Let’s take a look at how it things went for Rockstar Games in August.
GTA V Downloads Grow
PlayStation shared their monthly game charts this week for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads throughout August. In July, the game was the 3rd most downloaded PS5 game in the USA and Canada plus 4th in Europe. Despite the 12th anniversary coming up, the game saw growth in a month without a new DLC. It moved up to the 2nd most downloaded title in Europe. However, it did drop down to 6th in the USA and Canada.
A similar story can be seen in the PS4 charts. It previously was 4th in the US/Canada and 6th in Europe. Whereas in August it rose to 4th position in Europe and dropped down to 6th in North America.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Cannot Be Stopped

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains the most downloaded PS4 game in Europe plus the US/Canada in August. This is the 2nd month in a row after a two month break. This means Red Dead 2 has now been the most downloaded game 7 months out of 9 this year. Impressive.
Sales Data
We also have some sales data coming in for the USA in July via Circana. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the 9th best selling game across all platform and disc/digital. This is up from 15th in June. GTA V slotted in just behind it in 10th down from 9th.
Interestingly, Red Dead was the 3rd best selling game on Xbox but did not appear in the top 10 on PlayStation. GTA V appeared in 8th place on PS4/PS5 but not on Xbox. It was also the 3rd best selling game on PC and GTA V was 9th. In terms of US sales year-to-date, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the 19th best selling game so far. GTA V is 15th.
