New Data Reveals GTA San Andreas Success On Netflix

Recent reports have revealed just how successful GTA San Andreas continues to be on Netflix. Staggering numbers show despite Netflix scaling back their gaming vision in some areas like AAA development, the licensing of Grand Theft Auto from Rockstar Games and Take-Two has paid off.

Firstly, let’s take a quick look back at the Netflix x Rockstar Games collaboration. The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition games released on mobile via the streaming service at the end of 2023 with improvements over the Definitive Edition console and PC release.

GTA San Andreas proved to be an instant hit in particular. It sustained record number of downloads for the company since then. As for the trilogy as a whole, we previously reported on how the trilogy had over 36 million downloads as of a year ago.

GTA San Andreas made up the bulk of that with 25.2 million installs at the time. Then in November last year GTA III and GTA Vice City exited the streaming service leaving GTA San Andreas on its own.

Double In Less Than A Year

According to a report from Appmagic via mobilegamer.biz, GTA San Andreas has now almost doubled that previous figure as of June 2025. It has achieved at least 48.3 million downloads. This is more than double second place which is Squad Game: Unleashed with 20.7m. (This game is free and no Netflix subscription is required unlike with GTA SA).

Given this data is from a couple of months ago, GTA San Andreas has likely surpassed 50 million at this point. Based on data, GTA San Andreas achieves a couple million installs per month. During a 30 day period in May and June, it racked up 2.5m downloads; 1.5m more than second place: World of Peppa Pig.

Furthermore, GTA San Andreas is crushing it over a longer period and in terms of playtime. Data compiled by What’s On Netflix and verified by Variety, shows GTA San Andreas has been the 2nd most played game this summer. The period of data starts on May 7th and ran through August 12th so 3 months. The average daily ranking was 2.22. It came just behind Solitaire in the 3 month long period.

With GTA San Andreas continuing to earn tens of millions of downloads for Netflix, it is no surprise they have kept it in the subscription nearly a year longer than the other 2 games. So far, there has been no indication if/when it will leave Netflix.

In other GTA Trilogy news, the pack was re-released on Switch due the changing of publisher. This release has left some fans upset. Learn more here.
