Ahead of the GTA Online A Safehouse in the Hills update releasing on Wednesday, Rockstar Games have removed of the PlayStation Plus requirement needed to play GTA Online for the next couple of weeks. From mansions to missions, vehicles and more, A Safehouse in the Hills introduces a bunch of new ways to make and spend money.
First spotted by a community member PLTytus, Rockstar and Sony are letting all PlayStation 5 and 4 users enjoy GTA Online without an active membership.
This is a little surprising as the content update does not come until tomorrow and usually the PS+ requirement is removed after the update is out. The reason why it has been disabled before is due to the update being delayed by one day for an unknown reason.
Rockstar insider Tex2 (formerly known as Tez2) says this offer will probably last for 2 weeks based on previous removals of PS+ following updates. This means PlayStation players can enjoy GTA Online without a subscription probably until December 23rd. It’s a good way to get more people to enjoy the new content and events taking place in Los Santos over the holidays.
Why This Happens

Rockstar and PlayStation tend to do this when a new GTA Online update comes out so this is not a huge surprise. Sometimes it is just for a weekend but other times it is longer like it is this time around.
Even though many avid GTA Online players will think this might not do much, the game is still selling roughly 5 million copies every 3 months. There’s a fair chance GTA V is some people’s first GTA game still and GTA Online might not be appealing to them due to the paid subscription needed to hop on. Also, those with lapsed memberships might be enticed to check out the new content in A Safehouse in the Hills.
For PlayStation Plus Subscribers
Speaking of PlayStation Plus, those that are subscribed can play GTA V and GTA Online for the next few months. Last month, the game joined PlayStation Plus’ Game Catalog for those subscribed to the Extra and Premium tiers. Learn more here.
