Rockstar Games appear to be working on a new chat function for GTA Online that will work in a totally new way compared to the version found in the old GTA V Legacy release. If it comes to fruition, this could be taste of what to expect from communication in GTA 6 on PC.
It has been over a year since Rockstar put out GTA V Enhanced on PC to mixed reviews. Whilst GTA V has never looked this good and has some nice improvements here and there, the release removed in-game text chat which players deem essential to completing jobs together.
Notes from developers found in files of the game last year suggested text chat would return at some point. However, there has been zero developments on this situation since then. This has left many PC players wondering if it will ever come back.
Rockstar Working On New Chat Feature

According to dataminer Tex2, last week’s update to the Rockstar Games Launcher contains something more than what Rockstar revealed in a set of patch notes. Tex revealed in a Tweet on Tuesday that the update featured text chat references.
It is Tex’s belief that Rockstar are currently building a chat overlay into the Rockstar Games Launcher. This would allow chat to be visible and used across all of Rockstar Games’ multiplayer titles such as Red Dead Online and Max Payne 3 rather than just GTA Online. Plus, we’d see it in the inevitable PC port of GTA 6.
There will be a lot of questions from PC players on how it will be implemented. As of now, there are no more details. It is important to remember this may change during development or not even release at all.-
2 Patches 1 Week
This comes as Rockstar published two downloadable patches for GTA V on PC. One last week and another today. Every time the Enhanced version gets updated, fans quickly boot into the game to see if text chat has been re-added. Sadly, it remains absent.
Annoyingly, Rockstar’s patch notes for these two updates have been extremely vague as well. All they state is the updates contain “General fixes for stability and security”.
