One of the biggest issues players have had with GTA V Enhanced is the lack of in-game text chat for GTA Online. Players use it to complete missions together and its omission has made plenty of players to not play GTA V Enhanced.
Rockstar Games have released 4 patches since GTA V Enhanced came out but none of them have included text. Back at launch, a Rockstar Support representative confirmed to a GTA Forums user that text chat not supported at launch. Their recommendation is using SMS in-game to communicate. Whilst Rockstar said it is “not supported at launch”, some users questioned if it will even come back. It has been detrimental to many fans’ experience.
Datamined Files Revealed

Thankfully a new datamine has revealed Rockstar plans to bring it back. GTA Forums user _CP_ found in the pausemenu.xml file some interesting text left over by a Rockstar developer. It reads “text chat option not yet added to Gen9. Coming soon so just commenting out.” Gen9 is the current gen consoles and also used as the internal GTA V Enhanced name.
This means they are still working on it but there is absolutely no time frame when it will return. As and when this is fixed in GTA V Enhanced, we’ll be sure to report on it right here at RockstarINTEL.
For those who want to squad up with new players in GTA Online, you can find new players including those specifically looking for heists in Rockstar’s official Discord server which they recently launched. It got off to a chaotic start but has now a hub for all Rockstar Games fans. Learn more about the server here.
