A series of events has led to a new GTA 6 trailer appearing to be just a few days away. However, it is not all what it may seem. We will be taking a look at all the current speculation that spreading like wildfire on social media to just try and temper expectations ahead of next week.
PlayStation Messages
This all started late on Friday night. PlayStation began sending out a PSN message to gamers that have wishlisted GTA VI but do not own a PS5 console. It simply reads “You are a top Grand Theft Auto V player! Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches or November 19, 2026. Scan the QR code to shop PS5 consoles.”
The timing of this move from PlayStation has caused the community to believe a trailer is coming next week. This is the first time the GTA community has seen such messages from PlayStation.
However, this is something PlayStation actually do with other games and have done for a while. For example, a few months ago similar verbiage was used in messages to users telling them to upgrade from PS4 to PS5. It is not an exclusive and new tactic necessarily indicating pre-orders for GTA VI will open very soon.
PlayStation also utilised another form of communication last night: emails. Top GTA V players by play time began receiving emails telling them to get a PS5 for GTA VI because they are on PS4 still. Again, similar wording to the PSN message and something they have done before. This email was sent out worldwide too.
PlayStation Store Oddity

Another thread in the build up of hype for next week comes from the PlayStation Store sale page not being active. Some people believe this is a move done in preparation for GTA 6 pre-orders.
We can let this rest this because turning off one page of a store does not free up bandwidth in how people think it does. Server and database infrastructure does not work like that. PlayStation have also not run sales some weeks in the past and it wasn’t related to big game launches. The page was missing for a few days which is strange though.
Game Preview
Next up is an information blowout and cover story for the game via the Game Informer magazine. Well known for their big gameplay detail reveals for Rockstar titles in their past, there has predictions of Game Informer getting to reveal more on Grand Theft Auto VI. This speculation turned into lots of hope for some fans following an email sent out by Game Informer.
It reads “On the magazine side of things, we’ve basically shipped our next issue, and we’re so excited to reveal that [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] will be gracing its cover next week. But don’t tell my bosses I told you that…”
Many fans on social media have taken this as confirmation GTA VI will be the cover story for the next issue. This seems unlikely due to Game Informer not being the staple it once was. It has since changed hands, does not have the circulation it once did and Rockstar did not offer them the Red Dead Redemption 2 preview. The magazine’s parent company has failed to pay game developers part of their game studio for several months recently. It’s not a good look.
The world has changed. GTA VI is a behemoth that doesn’t come close to GTA V. Rockstar will be doing things on their own terms by themselves and don’t need the help from any outlet. The messaging of this game will be completely controlled by the company.
All this isn’t to say we won’t get GTA VI trailer 3 next week and pre-orders open. It’s entirely possible. We are getting closer and closer. There are plenty of days left in May and June. Whether it happens next week, the one after that or beyond remains to be seen. It’s just that these items listed are not related and more of just a coincidence.
