The Max Payne Remake just got a new development update from Remedy Entertainment. As per usual, the update comes as part of the Finnish studio’s quarterly financial reports to shareholders. Now Q3 of 2024 covering August through October has come to a close, the company has provided progress reports on their current projects.
Recapping The Previous Update
The last piece of news we got from Remedy was in August. It was revealed the double pack of remakes had entered full production during the second quarter of 2024. This was expected but still a significant milestone in the remakes’ development.
The full production stage of Remedy’s development usually takes around 200 developers over 1-2 years to reach the Alpha stage. Remedy CEO Tero Virtala explained “the development team has been working towards developing the game to an early functional state from beginning to end.”
Continued Good News
In the Q3 report published on Friday, Tero Virtala said that the company’s development fees increased mostly due to Control 2 and the Max Payne 1&2 Remake. As a reminder, Rockstar Games are still fully funding this game.
Virtala followed this up by saying Max Payne 1&2 Remake is making steady progress in full production. The development team continues their work, gradually reaching important milestones.”
It’s always great to hear from Remedy given their transparency. So far, the remakes are moving along on schedule. We’re now over 3 months into the full production. Based on the fact the game has gone through each stage on the upper end of time estimates and has a budget similar to Alan Wake 2, we could see these remakes release in late 2026 or early 2027.
Remedy recently unveiled their first multiplayer game titled FBC: Firebreak. It’s set within the Control universe and is scheduled to release in 2025. Max Payne 1&2 Remake plus Control 2 are separate teams and projects. Meanwhile, sales of Alan Wake 2 have almost paid for the game’s development a year after it came out.
Based on Remedy’s consistency and transparency, we should hear from them again once Q4 has concluded with another update. This will be around February 2025. As usual, we’ll be covering the information right here on RockstarINTEL.
