Rockstar Games are working on a Nintendo Switch 2 port of GTA 6 according to someone who claims to be an insider that specialises in Nintendo. However, other more reliable sources have elaborated on the situation.
First reported by Twitter user Nash Weedle, they claim they can “confirm” GTA 6 is getting a Switch 2 port. Weedle also claims the recent delay to November 19th 2026 is not due to a Switch 2 version nor will such version come out alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch. In terms of credibility, there is a debate over Nash’s reliability. Therefore we chose not to report on this until more information from other sources surfaced.
That has now happened but not in the way Nintendo fans may want to know. Extremely reliable insider NateTheHate (who previously doubled down on Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2) weighed in on Weedle’s rumour. Nate states “I said a while ago that Rockstar was doing tests to bring it to Switch 2”.
That should not come as much of a surprise, it makes sense. Rockstar have a long history of trying to port their games to other platforms but they don’t always end up releasing. The Switch 2 is popular and GTA 6 is going to be the biggest game on the planet. It just makes sense. Nate says “tests don’t always equal release” but does note “I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform. I don’t know the current state of that effort.”
Whilst some outlets have been quick to call this “confirmation”, that’s not really the case. Nate responded to one person calling this confirmation stating “Experimenting doesn’t equal “in development” & companies often test to see if a game is possible on hardware.”

Waiting For More Sources
Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly who has also reiterated a Switch 2 version of Red Dead 2 has been in the works shared his thoughts.
The interviewer quoted Nate and added that it “doesn’t mean anything” as “Rockstar tested putting GTA V on Wii U and that went nowhere.” Many people have wondered why GTA V, the second best selling game of all time, is still not on Switch 1 which is one of the best selling consoles of all time for example. Furthermore, Reilly tells us “Devs test putting games on hardware all the time, don’t take it as confirmation that it is happening.”
In another Tweet, Reilly posts he is “skeptical” about Weedle’s initial story. He has spoken to various Rockstar developers and none have mentioned a Switch 2 port of GTA VI. At least 8 have told him about Red Dead Redemption 2 for Switch 2 though.
Given Switch 2 is not far off an Xbox Series X|S, we could see GTA 6 come to it. The issue is, the CPU of the Switch 2 is not as good. Rockstar would have to make some serious compromises and optimisation. Some of the optimisation may even come in the next year or so of polish for the other consoles. The improvements will trickle down to a Switch 2 port.
