A new Red Dead Redemption re-release has been put out Rockstar Games. The classic western from 2010 is now available on modern consoles and there is even a free upgrade for a large portion of players. Below is a guide for each console’s free upgrade.
PS5 Upgrade
Both physical disc and digital PS4 copy owners get the free upgrade on PlayStation 5. To get the free upgrade, you simply just need to head to the PlayStation Store, search for Red Dead Redemption and download the PS5 version. It will be labelled. Those with a disc copy need to put the disc in the console so it can verify your ownership of the PS4 version.
Xbox Series X|S Upgrade
If you own a digital copy of the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption, you can claim the free upgrade via the Microsoft Store. That’s according to both the Rockstar Newswire and Rockstar Support.
Make sure you are logged in to the same Microsoft account that owns the backward compatible version. From here, you should be able to download the Xbox Series X|S version for free. However, some users are reporting this is not working as intended currently and they need to pay for it. A fix should be rolled out soon.
Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade

Both physical game cart and digital copy owners get the free upgrade on Switch 2. To get the free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade, you need to make sure Red Dead Redemption has been updated on your Switch 2 to version 1.06.
You now need to get the Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade pack. You can go directly to the Nintendo eShop and search for it then download it from the store page as seen in the screenshot above.
Or if you boot up Red Dead Redemption on Switch 2, there will be a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” option in the main menu below Undead Nightmare. Selecting this will take you to the store page for the upgrade pack as seen above.
Save Transfer

You can only transfer saves from the PS4 and Switch versions to the latest console part of that family. Xbox 360 saves cannot be brought into the new Xbox Series X|S version.
The Switch 2 save data must be backed up to the cloud from your Switch 1 if you have not done so already. When you load up the game on Switch 2, it will download the save data from the cloud.
