GTA V dominated PlayStation game download charts last month. Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V had a record breaking year last year but their form has not dropped off. They started out 2024 with a bang as GTA V claimed a top spot.
New reports with verified data shows these two titles from Rockstar Games just keep on going despite their age and brand new blockbuster releases. We’re entering 11 years of GTA V and it just won’t slow down.
GTA V reclaims most downloaded PlayStation game crown
PlayStation have released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games. During January, Grand Theft Auto V was the most downloaded PS5 game across all of Europe. This is up from 3rd place in December. Despite no new content patches, GTA V toppled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and EA SPORTS FC 24. This is quite significant given how popular EAFC is in Europe.
It also moved up a place in North America too. We saw GTA V ending 2023 in 3rd place for the US and Canada. It started 2024 as the runner up to CoD MWIII.
As for the PS4 chart, it was a different story. In December, the game had 3rd place in Europe and 4th in North America. However, it slipped to 6th place in both charts. This is likely down to players moving over to PS5. The Rockstar Editor will be removed from last gen this month.
Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive also confirmed a new sales milestones for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 this month. GTA V has now passed 195 million downloads as Red Dead 2 has sold over 61 million units. You can learn more here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued its success. Back in December, it was the 2nd most downloaded game of the month in the US/Canada and Europe charts. It only dropped two places in the January European charts but maintained second position in the USA and Canada.
The Red Dead Redemption re-release was in 19th place for December’s PS4 NA charts but exited the top 20 in January.
