The game might be over 9 years old but it is once again hugely successful as a livestreamed game. It has been revealed by a new report from StreamElements via Rainmaker.gg that Grand Theft Auto V was the second most watched game in 2022 on Twitch. This chart is done by ranking Twitch categories based on watch time hours from January to November 2022. A lot of this success can be attributed to GTA RP streams and new GTA Online updates.
Down from first to second
In 2021, GTA V was by far the most viewed game on Twitch in terms of watch time hours .. However this year it did drop down a place to last year’s runner up, Riot’s League of Legends. Both games are down in hours watched too. Last year we saw GTA V reach 2.1 billion hours and LoL had 1.8b. In contrast for 2022, GTA V dropped down to 1.3 billion hours watched and League came in with 1.4b. As you can see it was very close between the two and they both dropped in hundreds of millions of hours in watch time. This is likely down to how the world situation has changed especially during the summer. The games industry as a whole saw a drop in engagement at points in 2022.
GTA V on top for November
StreamElements via Rainmaker.gg report that Grand Theft Auto V was the most watched game in November. It clocked in 97 million hours watched on Twitch, up 3% on October. This is quite impressive as GTA V is 9 years old but beat out new games like Call of Duty Warzone 2, God of War Ragnarök, Overwatch 2 and more.
Leading into Christmas
According to stats site TwitchMetrics, GTA V is in the lead as the most watched Twitch game for December 2022 so far. As the month comes to a close and Christmas is almost upon is, the game dominates every other game on Twitch.
