It has been revealed GTA V is the best selling PlayStation game of all time and Red Dead Redemption 2 is not far behind. We’ve known for almost 12 years now that GTA V broke many records at release. Plus, it has since passed 215 million copies across all platforms worldwide. However we now have additional data thanks to a new report.
September 9th marks 30 years since the original PlayStation console launched in the United States of America. This has led to analytics firm Circana revealing the top 20 best selling games of all time on the console family. Now we can see where a few of Rockstar Games’ titles place in the all times sales list.
GTA V On Top
Circana have provided a list for the top 20 best selling games in terms of copies sold and also the top 20 in terms of dollars made. The accounting period began on January 1995 and runs through July 2025. The two lists include both physical and digital copies combined.
As you’d expect, GTA V takes the top spot in both charts. This mean it has sold the most units of any game on PlayStation and also made the most amount of money. No surprise given the 3 releases across PS3, PS4 and PS5.
Red Dead Redemption 2 comes in 3rd place which is also very impressive despite only being released once. It continues to be the most downloaded PS4 game almost every month according to PlayStation including last month.
Other Rockstar Games Titles

On top of that, Rockstar Games’ GTA San Andreas is the 9th best selling game in terms of dollar sales. Not bad for a PS2 game. It is only one of three PS2 games on the list with one of the others being GTA Vice City in 20th place.
As for copies sold, GTA San Andreas is the 4th best selling game on PlayStation. Again, another incredible feat. GTA Vice City was 9th in this chart.
