As part of this year’s Halloween festivities in GTA Online, Rockstar Games released a new zombie game mode. According to a Rockstar Games insider, it has exploded in popularity. The insider also has shared the amount of players who have tried the mode. Plus, a playerbase comparison between a previous mode and just how well this new one is doing.
Ever since was leaked via datamining the Bottom Dollar Bounties update, fans have been eagerly awaiting this new limited timed mode for two main reasons: It is set in North Yankton, not Los Santos and it features zombies. Titled the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, it takes place in the same location as GTA V’s Story Mode mission “Bury the Hatchet”.
Known Rockstar insider Tez2 shared on Twitter early on Friday some interesting numbers about the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival. In less than 24 hours, over 400,000 people played the mode in GTA Online.
The game has millions of players every month and is routinely one of the top 3-5 most played games every month on console; nearly half a million on a single new mode is good considering it has been out 11 years.
How it stacks up to others
We also have a comparison from Tez showing just how popular it is to another recent example. Rockstar’s previous game mode release was Assault on ATT-16 back in late August. Whilst this was a bit of a breathe of fresh air for GTA Online and players enjoyed it, the zombie filled survival was far more popular.
Tez revealed the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival had 270% more players than Assault on ATT-16 did within 24 hours. This shows people were looking forward to it and want something really different. Zombies, a new map etc. Also, it is spooky season.
A new update was shared by Tez 48 hours after the survival released. He showed that nearly 900,000 people had tried the new mode. Doubling the count in another 24 hours is impressive. The total plays has come to 1.7 million so far.
With no other survivals playable in GTA Online currently, this is the way to get your fix of wave based enemies with fun twists and a cool setting. I haven’t even bothered to try it because I still can’t get the ghosts to spawn in the lobby. I’ve spent several entire day/night cycles at the cemetery checking both spots at 1900 and it just isn’t spawning. Hopping sessions and even coming back every real day to try it for another two hours aren’t working either.
Just go to play jobs rockstar created then survival it’s right there super easy
