Rockstar Games Confirm Drop In Cheaters Thanks To New Anti-Cheat

Rockstar Games have revealed they have seen a significant reduction of cheaters in GTA Online among other changes in behaviour. Following various tweaks they’ve made to the game, the company have shared some of the outcomes plus asked some interesting questions in a new survey.

On Monday, we reported on a question from a new survey sent out by Rockstar Games. The question suggests Rockstar will release the next-gen feature set on PC within the next 3 months. Whilst you can read more about that question here, that was just one of the many questions in the survey.

Thankfully, respected GTA content creator Gtamen shared the survey in full. He made a video of himself going through the survey and like usual, the survey does offer some intriguing tidbits. These surveys go out every so often with the last main one hitting the email inboxes of players in August.

Rockstar ask a lot of questions in the survey; mostly generic ones about the recent content they’ve added to the game in the past 6 months or so. It lets fans share what they like or dislike about most things in the game right now. Though some other questions were far more noteworthy.

Cheaters Stopped

Firstly, let’s take a look at a question about the Anti-Cheat that Rockstar implemented back in September: “We recently introduced BattlEye, an anti-cheat software that helps us identify and take action against cheaters. Since its introduction, we have observed a significant reduction in the level of cheating in GTA Online on PC. Have you noticed the reduction in cheating in GTA Online?”

Whilst a number of players have expressed belief cheaters are less prevalent in the PC version of GTA Online, it is nice to get confirmation from the horse’s mouth. BattlEye immediately made various free mod menus useless. As a result, this led to development being stopped of such exploits.

On one hand, it sucks that GTA Online is no longer playable on Linux devices such as the Steam Deck but it seems like this was the best case of action for the large majority of players. Much like Rockstar, Respawn decided to end support for Linux in Apex Legends around the same time. They also confirmed a drop of 33% in cheaters.

Frauds Caught

On one page of the survey, Rockstar state there was a ban wave hitting players with money they got through ways deemed unacceptable: “There has been a wide-scale removal of accounts with inflated player rank or illegitimate GTA$.” It is unknown when this ban wave took place however.

Oppressor MkII Nerf

A major issue GTA Online players have had for years is the Oppressor MkII wrecking havoc in the skies above Los Santos whilst doing sell missions and the like. Much like the Anti-Cheat question, Rockstar asked if players have seen less trouble with the Oppressor:

“We recently decreased the effectiveness of the Oppressor MkII hoverbike and its lock-on missiles in our efforts to balance the vehicles available for players. Since these changes, have you noticed a decrease in the amount of aerial griefing you’ve experienced in GTA Online lobbies?” This also states that they have seen a big enough reduction in Oppressor MkII users disturbing other players.

If you didn’t receive the survey, we’d recommend watching Gtamen’s video in full which take you through the full set of questions along with some humour. You can watch it here.

Rockstar didn’t stop nothing I see modded accounts all over the place . And how is rockstar going to say something about players destroying other players sell missions when rockstar tells you to destroy it . Their is a lot more to nerf in the game

And players report players that are better than them because they start a fight and they get their butt handed to them . And also higher rank players should have better armor and take more hit then a lower level

      GTA isn’t an RPG…. Levels shouldn’t impact health/armor (stats)

Nothing has really been solved in GTA, there are still modified cars, modified people, modified invisible people, when you get killed you only know who killed you if it says it.

Is this a joke? Cheating is as bad as it’s ever been, despite the virus Rockstar made us install. Griefers still abound instead of being banished to their own lobby.

    Oppressor MK2 isn’t the griefer-mobile anymore…. The fuxing Stealth Hover Jet is….

Cuz they say anti cheat is there if this is realy the case than make it so everyone can sell their cars again without daily limit cuz its annoying for the legit players (you implement anti cheat goodjob but now) just remove the daily car limit sell option cuz u fixed the cheaters now please give us the option to sell cars again cuz this in gta 5 is just annoying (sorry to say this)
