GTA IV Looks Incredible With New RTX Remix Mod

A brand new and free mod makes GTA IV look more impressive than ever before whilst maintaining the original art direction of the game: the RTX Remix Compatibility Mod.

GTA IV released all the way back in 2008 so there has been no shortage of graphics mods for it. We’ve covered some including a spectacular one recently. However, this new mod has a major difference: it adds path tracing.

For those unaware, path tracing realistically simulates how light bounces off objects and surfaces. It is extremely demanding but makes games look vastly superior and will be a staple of video games going forward. Below is a screenshot of GTA IV with the mod installed.

Grand Theft Auto IV’s RTX Remix Compatibility Mod by xoxor4d is built for The Complete Edition of the game and RTX Remix. Whilst it does not include any remastered assets, the mod accurately bounces light across the game’s world whilst retaining the intended atmosphere. Community members are hard at work on crafting PBR supported assets for those that want to take it a step forward.

Whilst there are some drawbacks such as the drop in performance and bugs, it is a sight to behold when installed. Every single light in the game has become a remix light allowing for enhanced visuals. This is evident across many types of surfaces such as windows and vehicles.

GTA IV’s art direction is still praised almost two decades later and altering it just does not make the game feel the same. Thankfully, this is a mod that stays faithful to what the artists intended. You can download the mod for yourself here.

How To Install

Here are a few steps created by the modder on how to install the mod.

  1. Download the Compatibility Mod
  2. Download the installer
  3. Place both files in the same folder and run GTAIV-Remix-CompMod-Installer.exe
  4. Use the File Dialog to select your GTAIV.exe which is located within your GTAIV install folder
  5. The installer will ask if you want to install a custom Fork of FusionFix. Note: If you already have FusionFix installed, it’s definitely recommended to install this because the original, unmodified version has a few incompatibilities with RTX Remix. If you do not have FusionFix installed, you are free to choose. It’s not a requirement.
  6. Make sure that you remove all custom launch arguments for GTAIV in Steam but only if you have any set
