The newest GTA 6 trailer helped Rockstar Games have GTA V move up the most downloaded game charts in the month of May according to PlayStation’s new charts data. GTA VI Trailer 2 had a similar effect as the first one where more people returned to GTA Online.
Meanwhile in a shock upset Rockstar Games‘ western masterpiece Red Dead Redemption 2 lost its crown of being the most downloaded game on PlayStation after 5 months. We’ll be taking a look at all of the latest charts data for Rockstar Games titles and a special new report.
GTA VI Trailer 2 Boosts GTA Online
PlayStation shared their monthly game charts last week for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads throughout May. The game was the 5th most download game in the US and Canada plus 4th in Europe. This is up from 8th and 6th.
So despite no new DLC and the release of GTA VI Trailer 2, it gained several places and fended off big new releases. Those new releases include Forza Horizon 5, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring Nightreign.
A similar story can be seen in the PS4 charts. It was the 5th most downloaded PS4 title in North America and 6th in Europe. This is up from 11th in North America and 8th in Europe. An even bigger jump compared to PS5.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s Reign Ends

After 5 months in a row as the most downloaded PS4 game in the USA and Canada, Red Dead Redemption 2 has lost the top step on the podium in a surprise upset. Star Wars Battlefront II, which came out a year before RDR2, saw an astronomical resurgence throughout May thanks to fans spreading the word about the game.
It defeated Red Dead Redemption 2 in both the US/Canada and European charts claiming victory at the top. Red Dead 2 had to settle for being demoted to second place in both charts. Given Star Wars Battlefront 2’s continued success in the first week of June, Red Dead 2 might not be able to claim back 1st place this month. We’ll find out the results next month.
New Report On Playing Habits

Analytics firm Ampere shared a new report via The Game Business revealing some interesting information about gaming habits of players including those who take part in GTA Online.
In the report, GTA V was mentioned in a section about Minecraft and the film that came out. Due to the success of the film, the game saw a large uptick in players. It had 20 million monthly active users in the month of April; the highest since June 2022. The amount of GTA Online players who also play Minecraft was 11% during that month. It was the 4th highest in the list trailing Fortnite, Roblox and Call of Duty.
We also saw that there was a 19% decline in average gaming hours among new and returning Minecraft players in GTA Online on PlayStation in April. This was one of the highest drops in the chart.
Last month Ampere revealed GTA VI’s delay has cost the industry around $2.7 billion this year. Learn why here.
