It’s now 2026 and we’ve already got people freaking out about a GTA 6 delay. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has shared some thoughts and inside knowledge around the game and many people have taken his words the wrong way.
The journalist has been extremely reliable when it comes to games in general but GTA VI leaks in particular. What he says, even if an opinion, carries weight due to how he is informed.
In a new episode of the Button Mash podcast, the hosts asked the journalist about his confidence level in GTA VI launching on November 19th 2026. Schreier pointed to how Rockstar have worked in the past especially with Red Dead Redemption 2. It was delayed publicly twice.
“I wouldn’t be super shocked if that is what happens again this time around. [That it is delayed twice and is out in November] This is a big and complicated game and the last I heard it was still not content complete.” This contradicts what other outlets reported a few months ago.
He continued by explaining what this stage of the game’s development means. “That is to say that people were still finishing things up, still finalizing levels and missions and seeing what’s going to make it into the game. Typically the way that game development works, you kind of, you have your, your feature complete your content, complete your bug testing phases. And there’s a lot of kind of boundaries blurred along the way and all of those different stages. But, but, but they are, they are still still making stuff.”

What’s next? Schreier says they will be hopefully done with that “soon and just have a whole bunch of time for fixing bugs. But even during those phases, there’s always someone who wants to sneak in some last minute stuff.”
Speaking for Rockstar, he does not think anyone there would tell us with 100% certainty it will release on the currently targeted release date. However, his personal opinion is this November date is more realistic than May 2026 and especially Fall 2025 which was “never real”. Rockstar staff Jason spoke to previously did not think they would hit May 2026.
Ripping Into Headlines
As always, his comments have been twisted and taken out of context by the games media and social media users. Jason hit back on Reddit saying that “Despite this sh*tty headline, if you listen to the actual context here it’s me saying that I think fall 2026 is a more real release window than fall 2025 was.”
He continued to make it clearer saying “Yes, directly after saying that with Red Dead 2 they delayed it twice and I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s the same pattern, and directly before saying that while with game development you can never be 100% certain, this feels more solid than previous dates did. It’s a shitty headline because it’s taken out of context to present a misleading view that I did not in fact offer.”
Furthermore, the writer blasted headlines in a post on BlueSky saying “This is a complete misunderstanding of what I said, which is that I wouldn’t be shocked if GTA6 *does* come out this fall, following the same delay pattern as RDR2. Of course another delay is possible. It’s a video game. But this blog post is very misleading (just reach out to me – it’s not hard!)”
