GTA 6 might not get a physical release when it launches on November 19th 2026. That’s according to a reputable leaker with an accurate track record even though we are months away from release still. We’ll be taking a look at the situation and what it means.
This information is coming from Graczdari who previously revealed Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 would come to PS5 and that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for Nintendo Switch 2 would release on March 26th 2026. They are involved within the distribution of physical copies for video games inside of Europe. This allows them to be privy to such information.
A Discless Launch
The leaker told outler ppe.pl that GTA 6 is currently set to launch discless on November 19th 2026. Only digital copies from the Xbox and PlayStation Store will be available to purchase. This is a huge shift in strategy for Take-Two Interactive.
The source claims this is to avoid leaks of gameplay and story spoilers. Ironically, GTA V leaked several weeks before release back in 2013 due to PlayStation allowing PS3 players to download the digital version of the game. Meanwhile Red Dead Redemption 2 disc copies appears far in advance and provided us with leaks.
This still makes sense given most people buy games digitally these days and back then it was a small minority. However, a decision like this will allow Take-Two Interactive earn a lot more money. The cost of producing and selling physical copies is far more than a digital copy. 30% of every digital copy goes to the platform (Xbox or PlayStation) where as more than 30%, closer to 50%+ has to go to the platform, retailers and distributors etc.
On top of that, fans who want a physical copy and can’t wait for a potential disc, will end up buying the game twice as they’ll get it digitally first. This will help boost sales figures and financials.
Many games these days don’t even include the full game on disc. If GTA VI is more than 100GB, it won’t fit onto one Xbox Series X|S or PS5 disc. GTA V’s original console launch had two discs but those were cheaper, smaller, DVD level discs. Companies are trying to cut as many costs as possible.

2027 Plans?
Ppe.pl have since been provided with additional unconfirmed reports. Using machine translation, the site states a physical disc copy of the game will release in either the few weeks after launch or within the first half of 2027. More details on this will come as soon as mid-February 2026.
Rockstar are no stranger to this strategy albeit it on a smaller scale. The 2021 release of the GTA Trilogy was digital for awhile. GTA V’s current gen release was digital only for a month in 2022. Red Dead Redemption’s PS4 and Switch copies also releases a month or so after the digital launch. This will all have been valuable experience for Take-Two.
I’d also like to point out the Red Dead and GTA V re-releases did not contain physical maps in their cases. No real-life maps in copies on launch day and potentially none when the physical copies arrive…
What About Collectors?
This move will worry the biggest of Rockstar Games fans. The company has produced fantastic collector’s editions for their games over the past two decades or so. Whilst such high-end versions of games are far less common in today’s digital dominated market, companies who love to do such editions like Bethesda have continued to do so. Fans have held the belief Rockstar will do a GTA VI collector’s edition. Obviously, the news above will now worry some. Same goes for the lack of a physical map in standard editions.
Personally, I think we should not be worried and here’s why. Rockstar released a collector’s box for Red Dead Redemption 2 on launch day. Lots of people really liked this item but it did not come with a copy of the game included. Red Dead Redemption 2 was sold separately and that annoyed a lot of people. This scheme has since been used by other game companies.
I think Rockstar would likely do a repeat of this with GTA VI: sell a box of collectables without the game for launch day. I hope so anyway as someone that collects Rockstar Games items and other special editions of games.
