Gaming magazine Game Informer is seemingly being revived this week and it has sparked a lot of talk about GTA 6 marketing being kick-started.
The popular publication was shut down by parent company GameStop last July after over 33 years of gaming coverage. It left quite a lot of disappointed readers and industry members behind as it was such a staple.
Some of the most iconic issues were made in collaboration with Rockstar Games. Huge information blowouts and screenshots from a new Rockstar title would be part an issue fronted by cover art that decked store shelves. GTA Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV and GTA V all had in-depth, exclusive previews with Game Informer.
The GTA V issue was the biggest single drop of information for the game. From the brand new artwork to confirmation of three playable protagonists and map size, it covered so much. It made the wait for GTA V a lot more bearable. Many GTA fans were under the impression another such issue would be cooked up for GTA 6 ahead of its release. Sadly, Game Informer was shuttered with immediate effect last August…
Surprise!

To the surprise of everyone, the official Game Informer Twitter account shared a teaser last week after months of remaining dormant. It showed it the current website which has a goodbye message and then the date of March 25th 2025. Several of the former staff at the outlet reshared this video with more cryptic hints. It does appear GI will be back as early as Tuesday.
GTA VI Speculation
So what does this mean for GTA 6? Well, many fans have speculated the first issue from Game Informer’s return will be GTA 6. It will be the biggest game release of all time. What better way to relaunch this publication and continue its history of huge GTA previews?
Plus, it has been well over 400 days since Rockstar last shared anything on GTA VI with the first trailer. There is a lot of expectation we’ll get a trailer in April or May. There is a rumour the second trailer could come early next month.
Even if Game Informer does not kick start its new era with a GTA VI cover story, it seems like a safe bet they’ll do some coverage with Rockstar when the studio decides. This is a very interesting time for sure. We are still so unsure what Rockstar’s moves will be for GTA VI marketing given their deviation from previous strategies. The game is still on target to release in Fall at the time of writing so something has got to give soon, right?
If anything GTA 6 happens with Game Informer we’ll be sure to bring you the information right here on RockstarINTEL.
