Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned Released 9 Years Ago Today

Nine years ago today, the world received its first public glimpse of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned. The expansion pack was the first of two that Grand Theft Auto IV received. It was developed by Rockstar North for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and was ported to Microsoft Windows by Rockstar Toronto. The Lost and Damned was the third expansion pack game released in the Grand Theft Auto series and the twelfth release overall.

The plot follows protagonist Johnny Klebitz, Vice President of the Alderney chapter of The Lost MC, as he attempts to deal with internal conflicts, gang warfare, drug running, and various enemies in an effort to keep the motorcycle club chapter running. The storyline also shows Johnny’s perspective in regard to the infamous diamond deal of Grand Theft Auto IV.

    The release

The release of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned garnered “generally favorable” reviews from critics, according to review aggregatorMetacritic. The game’s improved mechanics, quality voice acting, the multiplayer component, and other new content impressed critics. It was not without fault, however, as critics were not pleased with auto-aiming issues and weak gang AI.

    Controversy

As with any Grand Theft Auto release, it was not without its fair share of controversy. In the opening cutscene to the mission ‘Politics’, a character exposes his genitals in a full-frontal nude shot. This resulted in the parental advisory group Common Sense Media issuing a public warning about the expansion pack due to the aforementioned nudity.
