The team behind FiveM, Cfx.re, have released a lengthy blog post providing an update to FiveM and RedM. This comes just over one year on from Rockstar Games‘ purchase of the platform and team.
Each month, Cfx.re release a “Community Pulse” that updates players on what’s going on with FiveM and RedM. This month’s post is quite a detailed one as the team celebrate 1 year under Rockstar Games’ wings.
The blog post kicks off with a thank you to all players, server owners, creators and more who have been part of the FiveM/RedM journey so far. They also reveal FiveM surpassed 300,000 concurrent players in 2023. Meanwhile RedM broke 10,000. To date, more than 20 million players have used these platforms.
Rockstar Games’ GTA RP partnership
Next up, Cfx.re recap Rockstar Games’ involvement with CPX Fest. If you aren’t aware, we previously reported on this huge event ran by members of the Brazilian GTA Online community. One of the largest FiveM servers in the country, Complexo, held the event. Rockstar Games gifted all GTA Online players located in Portugal and Brazil $400,000 of in-game cash.
Cfx.re say “This event was an exciting step forward for the world of RP and we look forward to working with other servers worldwide for events in the future.” Based on this, we can see more of these GTA RP events working with Rockstar in the coming months and years.
Rockstar helping out
In the past 12 months since Rockstar’s takeover, Cfx.re have improved various areas of their business. For example, one of the main targets for improvement has been their support systems. Their support site saw a rise in visitors, double to be exact over last year. Due to this influx, steps have been taken to accompany such growth.
The team say how this was achieved was changing up support processes, new support agents working with Rockstar Games. Together, they have developed new tools and adopted procedures plus best practices.
Meanwhile similar steps have been taken on the player safety and moderation side of things. This is an on-going area of improvement. An upcoming change for player safety is the removal of player identifiers from being publicly accessible on servers’ endpoint as well as from Cfx’s server list backend. According to them, this will take place in “the coming weeks.” Server owners can choose to keep this mechanic but a “safer alternative” will come at some point this year.
Rockstar and Cfx.re have also collaborated to improve integration with Rockstar Online Services. We’ve also seen significant revamps for their systems and hired a lot of experts. This included the ability to support new GTA V updates easier. That said, the team are “focused on making it easier for server owners to upgrade to newer game builds, including removing some of the common difficulties with bringing custom assets from version-to-version.”
Upcoming improvements to servers
The company’s infrastructure will soon be moving to a “state-of-the-art Cloud solution”. The expectation is that this will all FiveM and RedM to have improved reliability and uptime. That said, there is likely going to be some “brief downtime for some critical services during the migration”. These will be communicated to the community “well in advance”. We’ve already seen reliability upgrades come in recent months but this is new layer.
Changes to communication
In terms of how news will be delivered by the team going forward, Community Updates will now become two types of posts. Firstly there is the “General, project-level updates which will share information on major initiatives, projects, and plans”. Whereas “Development-focused round-ups, which will provide a more regular/recurring log of key updates, new features, community contributions, and patches, fixes, and bugs” will be separated from the former.
“Important changes” on this topic are scheduled to come this year. Cfx.re say they will share further information “soon”. Feedback is also welcome once plans have been fully unveiled.
